Description:

The McLain Group represents a client, a supplier and fabricator in the commercial nuclear power industry, with an immediate need for an Engineering Manager. Our client offers competitive compensation, excellent benefits and promotes the development and success of their employees.

The Engineering Manager plans, organizes and directs assigned projects to meet company objectives for contract completion, design, project tasking, and communicates same to corporation management staff and customer.

Responsibilities:

  • Approve and review project customer source control drawings, specification control drawings and other applicable specifications to determine requirements and/or feasibility of the component.
  • Perform all necessary calculations to assist the sales organization as required.
  • Prepare preliminary design and contract proposal(s).
  • Interact with the Engineering staff to define and solve manufacturing/design issues and implement schedule benefits to meet the customers’ requirements.
  • Perform liaison functions between Engineering, QA/QC, and Sales for any related issues, problems or improvements.
  • Manage and build current bills of materials (BOM) and shop travelers.
  • Work with the Quality department to define problem areas and implement product improvements based on customer repair/rejection concerns.
  • Participate in engineering and general design review as required.
  • Refine and complete designs after design review meetings.
  • Prepare technical data such as qualification test procedures, acceptance test procedures, reports, component maintenance manuals, etc.
  • Interact with Customers on engineering design and any questions/problems they may have.
  • Interact with Vendors and site purchasing manager concerning parts they supply or propose to supply to company.
  • Coordinate as required with internal groups including Purchasing, Quality Controls, Sales, Production, and Accounting personnel.
  • Keep Supervisor advised of work status, workload, problems, and progress as related to work assignments.
  • Confirm with all safety rules and use all appropriate safety equipment.
  • Work with CAD Detailer for creation of drawings and review of them.
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.

Requirements:

  • Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 4-10 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents.
  • Ability to respond and effectively to the most sensitive inquires or complaints.
  • Able to understand computer assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software.
  • Able to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Able to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Participate in employee training and development skill as directed.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong team player.
  • Ability to utilize computer and associated software programs, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Project and Outlook – must be computer literate.
  • Experience in problem solving.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Self-Directed and highly organized.
