The McLain Group represents a client, a supplier and fabricator in the commercial nuclear power industry, with an immediate need for an individual who is highly motivated with general sales experience and good communications for Business Development. The Business Development position is an evolving, working office position requiring travel.  A general understanding of steel products would be beneficial.  Our client offers competitive compensation, excellent benefits and promotes the development and success of their employees.


  • Identify New Business Opportunities – Create and maintain an evolving list of potential customers in an effort to secure new and increased business. Create and maintain an evolving list of potential manufactures company can represent, manufacture for or distribute.
  • Secure New Business Opportunities – Increase business volume by securing relationships with new customers and suppliers.
  • New Construction – Insure consistent and regular representation with NSSS, A&E and OEM’s involved with new construction.
  • Increase Market Exposure – Identify annually those conferences, trade shows, seminars or equivalent that is recommended for company participation. Develop and submit annually for approval the expected budget for such participation.
  • Maintain Existing Account Base – Through proper delegation and task assignment with the Business Development Assistant, assure existing accounts are maintained and groomed for increased revenues.
  • Cultivate Vendor and Legacy Manufacturer Relationships – Work to strengthen relationships with key suppliers to company.  Identify those vendors deemed critical to our ability to support the industry and work to cultivate those with the possibility of exclusive partnerships.  Work to strengthen the relationships with our current and new manufacturers.
  • Delegate Tasks to Business Development Assistant – Primarily utilize the skill set of the Assistant to support existing accounts by generating quotes, submitting proposals, keeping apprised of delivery dates or concerns.  Secondary, utilize the skill set of the Assistant to support needs that arise out of the new business opportunities.
  • Education/Training – Keep informed on industry news and trends, products, services, competitors, relevant information about legacy, existing, and emerging technologies, and the latest product-line developments.  Communicate that knowledge regularly to the sales team.
  • Marketing – Initiate sales campaigns and follow marketing plan guidelines in order to meet sales and production expectations.  Stock and distribute resources such as samples and promotional and educational materials
  • Travel – Visit prospective buyers to show samples or catalogs, and to inform them about product or service availability and advantages.  Attend trade show and seminars when feasible to promote products or to learn about industry developments.  Prepare and deliver technical presentations that explain products or services to customers and prospective customers.

  • Computer Savvy – utilize the Microsoft Outlook operating systems efficiently
  • Critical Thinking – use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to a challenge
  • Research – use the resources available to research questions and gather information independently
