The Principal Outage Specialist is an advanced level recognized by the organization as an expert in BWR Outage Scheduling/Outage Work Management activities. Coordinates operations, maintenance, engineering and construction activities and establishes site work priorities for outages. Provides outage scheduling support and designs outage support plans for site activities. Monitors progress of work, identifies problems, and revises plans and schedules as necessary to ensure safe and efficient execution. Creates outage plans that drive improvement through the organizations.


  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the process and ensures the organization complies with Outage and Work Management procedures and practices.
  • Publish reports and critiques, monitor completion of action items and lessons learned.
  • Develop and implement new concepts for process improvement.
  • Develop and maintain long range plans.
  • Serve as project manager on special assignments as necessary.
  • Supervise personnel and/or activities during outage and online times to meet established milestones and objectives in compliance with regulatory requirements.


  • Bachelor Degree in Science or related technical field and power plant experience as is normally acquired in 10 years – OR- Associates of Science degree or related technical field with 12 years power plant experience – OR – High school diploma or equivalent with 15 years related power plant experience.
  • Prior BWR outage scheduling experience is preferred.
  • Prior experience as a Control Room Supervisor, Outage Workweek Supervisor or Outage Manager is preferred.
  • Must be able to pass all phases of In-Processing including background investigation, psychological screening, appropriate training and be medically certifiable (drug and alcohol screen).
  • Must be able to manage multiple work activities, which will include numerous urgent (time critical) tasks of varying priority.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience related to planning, scheduling or outage/work management.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of the organization, administrative procedures and a functional knowledge of the plant.
