Description:

The McLain Group represents a client, a supplier and fabricator in the commercial nuclear power industry, with an immediate need for a Director of Projects.  Our client offers competitive compensation, excellent benefits and promotes the development and success of their employees.

The Director of Project directs the Project Management Department and oversees execution of departmental activities.  Direct reports to the Director of Projects are Estimators, Buyers, Shop Foreman, Project Managers.  The Director of Project reports directly to the President/General Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the review of project contracts, customer source control drawings, specification control drawings, and other applicable specifications.
  • Manage the interface between Estimating, Project Management Department and the Sales Organization, as required, on Requests for quote and orders.
  • Oversee the development, maintenance, and execution of project schedules.
  • Interact with the Engineering staff to define and solve manufacturing/design issues to meet each customer’s requirements.
  • Perform management liaison functions between Engineering, QA/QC, and Sales to resolve issues, problems and to facilitate company improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee the risk management process for all projects.
  • Work with the Quality Department to define problem areas and implement product improvements based on customer repair/rejection concerns.
  • Oversee the interface with Engineering to support generation of drawings and work instructions.
  • Maintain the primary responsibility for financial performance, including overall project’s EAC, revenue accrual, milestone capture, and warranties.
  • Work with the Finance Organization to maintain and assist in resolution with select financial activities (e.g. billing milestones and discrepancies, audit findings, etc.)
  • Oversee interaction with customers on any questions/problems that may manifest on projects.
  • Oversee interaction with vendors concerning material and service supply performance.
  • Direct internal groups, including Projects, Estimating, Purchasing, and Production.
  • Manage company conformance with all safety rules and use all appropriate safety equipment.
  • Support, at a management level, a company-wide Nuclear Safety Culture in accordance with NRC, INPO/WANO, and AIEI requirements and guidelines.
  • Manage company conformance with all industry regulations & standards, customer requirements, company policies, procedures and work instructions.
  • Support leadership with key recruitment and hiring.
  • Participate in  training as required
  • Maintain responsibility for the continuous improvement in the reduction of lead times, streamlining of operations, and coordination of the following business initiatives:
  • Creation and implementation of process standards for efficient deliverables across the company
  • Product management and technical development
  • Contract management
  • Risk mitigation planning
  • Management of company business performance, forecasts, and goals
  • Communication plans

Work Environment

  • Employee may work near moving mechanical parts.
  • Employee will be exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes and odors.

Requirements:

  • Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Ability to work with and manage a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to foresee issues that could impede project execution and take steps to mitigate them.
  • Experience in an Industrial/Manufacturing environment that required interaction with various departments and individuals to move a project from order receipt, to shipping the final product.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents.
  • Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Able to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Able to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Participate in employee training and development skill as directed.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong team player.
  • Ability to utilize computer and associated software programs, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Project and Outlook – must be computer literate.
  • Must be detail-oriented.
  • Self-Directed and highly organized.
  • Desire to work toward Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
