206 – Nuclear Power Supplier and Fabricator Project Manager

Job Number: 206

Location: Nationwide

Industry: Electrical Power – Nuclear

Description:

The McLain Group represents a client, a supplier and fabricator in the commercial nuclear power industry, with an immediate need for a Project Manager. Our client offers competitive compensation, excellent benefits and promotes the development and success of their employees.

Project Managers (PMs) are responsible for all aspects of project planning and execution, from the time the company receives an actual order, to the time they have received payment on the related invoice. The PM will be the direct point of contact to whom anyone, inside or outside of the company, will know to reach out to for any and all project inquiries/updates. Planning, organizing, leading, and controlling are essential duties of a PM. To be successful it’s important to know some of the many expectations that go with that responsibility.

Responsibilities:

  • Know the Customer Contract thoroughly. The PM will be expected to know this contract better than anyone else at the company.
  • Develop a contract compliance matrix to identify gaps or errors in the contract document, providing a baseline for measuring performance as it progresses, and serving as a clear roadmap during the close-out phase.
  • Develop & manage the project schedule to coordinate Customer progress updates, including milestone achievements. This will inevitably let the customer know that you are a trusted source of accurate and timely information. It will also reinforce the assurance that the project is moving well, and as planned.
  • Keep the Customer informed of project status, setbacks, and actions planned to correct the situation. This should especially take place when policy and procedure dictates. In most, if not all cases, you would meet with Management prior to such notification.
  • Be completely aware of both contractual and other consequences related to late deliverables. Know the associated timelines and keep them in sight.  Alert team members and management far in advance of that becoming a reality.
  • PMs will be provided a BOM by the Engineering Team. It’s extremely important to have a clear understanding of the material types and grades being ordered, as well as the applicable specifications, code requirements, safety class, etc…
  • You will provide RFQs to our Buyer for material and/or service requests. These requests need to be accurate at the time of submission.
  • When POs are issued, you will be responsible for tracking the progress of the material order or outside service. You will coordinate Pre-Job/Pre-Service conferences with sublet vendors to ensure they understand the scope, technical requirements, quality requirements, and communicate our expectations.
  • It will become necessary to familiarize yourself with vendors. Take the time to get to know them. Invite them to visit or visit them, especially when they are actively working our orders. We are their customer, but make it clear that we are in this together and want nothing but success.
  • Know your project delivery requirements and float to maintain a realistic schedule for success.
  • Utilize the numerous system resources in the development and maintenance of schedules. Work closely with Operations to avoid scheduling conflicts and to confirm available resources.
  • Make the necessary effort to control costs wherever possible for the project. Contribution Margin needs to be monitored and controlled, (Contribution Margin is the sales price of a product minus its variable costs). Managing Contribution Margin is a key responsibility of the PM. Changes to Contribution Margin need to be anticipated and communicated.
  • Follow the Operating Procedures per our QA Manual.
  • Coordinate and document a thorough Job Closing, including a Debrief & Lessons Learned Session. This should involve any party related to the project. Topics should include lessons learned, successes, set-backs, accounting positives and negatives, etc… Offer Thanks and Congratulations!

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Engineering or Project Management
  • 1-5 years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
