The Welding Project Engineer is a working position with an exceptional working knowledge and understanding of material fabrication methods such as; welding, heat treating, nondestructive examination, metal roll forming, etc.  The Weld Engineer also has a general knowledge of metallurgical science and ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code Sections II, III, VIII and IX as well as AWS Welding Codes.  The general job responsibilities include developing welding and fabrication procedures as well as administrating welder and weld procedure qualification activities.  The Welding Project Engineer will at all times perform the duties and responsibilities of the job in a manner consistent with the company’s values.


  • Responsibilities defined in the Company Quality Assurance Manual and Welding Program Manual.
  • Assist in review of Projects prior to award to ensure Project Welding requirements can be met.
  • Coordinate with Project Management, Engineering, Operations and Quality Assurance on all Project matters affecting fabrication welding.
  • Assist in the development, coordination and implementation of quality inspection activities for welded fabrications (WDRs).
  • Create Overall and Weld Detail Drawings and Requirements for fabrication from:
    • Customer supplied drawings
    • OEM supplied drawings
    • Reverse Engineered dimensions
  • Work with Project Engineers and Operations Personnel to obtain necessary Welding Drawing details to ensure an accurate weld processes are used.
  • Performance of Welding Engineering responsibilities including:
    • Preparation, implementation and maintenance of the Company Welding Program.
    •  Qualification of welders/weld operators in accordance with Code requirements.
    • Establishing, certifying and maintaining Welder Qualification Records (WQR).
    • Preparing, reviewing and releasing Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).
  • Develop process/product improvements based on internal and external customer feedback.
    • Assisting Sales in the preparation and performance of Technical Welding and Fabrication Sales Presentations to customers.
    • Assessing and consulting of the procurement of equipment to fulfill shop needs.Understand the various Quality Requirements as they pertain to this position to complete daily work activities.
    • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.


  • The Welding Project Engineer shall have 5 years of experience in a technical role and/or technical degree.
  • Proficient in reading technical drawings.
  • Read and understand Quality Requirements and Standards such as
    • TEMA
    • ASME
    • ANSI
    • AISC
  • Excellent computer and communications skills.
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in fast-paced environment.
