Central Design Engineering provides high quality, cost effective, on schedule design services for the company’s nuclear fleet. Design Projects, which resides in the Central Design Engineering Department, is responsible for providing requested modification packages to the nuclear fleet. Modification design control is maintained through effective configuration management of design output documents (e.g., specifications, calculations, drawings, test requirements and procedures).


•Prepare cost-effective modifications as assigned to improve plant performance and reliability.
•Prepare engineering products consistent with defined standards, procedures and regulatory guidelines to ensure the site’s design and licensing basis is maintained
•Assist in the solutions to issues that impact safe, reliable operations and propose process changes that improve overall efficiency.
•Provide technical support to operations, maintenance, engineering, and other fleet organizations.
•Manage engineering work assignments to ensure the design service provided is meeting department and organizational needs.
•Communicate to all levels of the organization, verbally and in writing, technical information, concepts, and ideas throughout the engineering product development.
•Attend training and maintain qualifications necessary to perform required group function.
•Demonstrates expertise in own specific engineering discipline and how that discipline relates to utility operations. Knowledgeable in the various regulations and codes which apply to their specific discipline
.• Requires knowledge of utility policies, practices, as well as industry wide policies and practices.  Solid understanding of related disciplines and all plant departments and their interaction with assigned work.
•Able to view tasks logically, break problem down in to essential requirements, and generate a solution applying accepted standards. Recommends the best course of action to meet the objectives.
•Plans longer term projects and develops schedules.  Meets deadlines set by Engineering Leadership.
•Influence others to combine resources such that deadline can be met. Expected to provide guidance and coaching to entry level engineers.


  • B.S. Degree in Engineering or other closely related scientific discipline / physical science generally associated with power plant operations, or equivalent work experience (equivalent experience is defined as demonstrated success at the Engineer / Technical Specialist level.)
    Desired: BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institutionEngineer III :4+ years experience in nuclear power design, operations or equivalent.
    Trained and qualified on nuclear industry Standard Design ProcessDesired:
    Electrical I&C Nuclear Design Engineering Experience Highly PreferredTechnical understanding of nuclear generation principles and operations. Outstanding communication and conflict management skills. Proficiency with current computer business applications.

Functional Knowledge – Requires understanding and application of procedures and concepts within ELECT/I&C discipline and basic knowledge of other disciplines.
•Experience with preparing and/or reviewing power plant electrical and/or I&C drawings, calculations and equipment specifications.
• Experience with plant electrical power system analysis software such as ETAP and EDISON.

•Experience analyzing relay coordination and working with Time-Current Coordination curves (TCCs) and arc-flash hazard assessments.
•Experience with selection and application of electrical components including motors, transformers, protective relaying, breakers, inverters, large lead storage batteries, battery chargers and inverters
•Prior performance of nuclear design basis related calculations (voltage drop, breaker coordination, load study analysis, instrument uncertainty setpoints, etc.)
•Perform Battery sizing calculations
•Experience modeling motors and doing transient analysis for plant equipment.
•Familiarity with instrument specifications, instrument data sheets, calibration sheets
•Ability to read and interpret P&ID’s, schematics, ladder logic
•Familiarity with Distributed Control Systems, HMI, and PLC applications
•Digital modification experience in commercial nuclear power (Hardware/software database point mapping, Requirement traceability, Software testing
•Familiarity with EMI/RFI evaluation and analysis
•Familiarity with Cyber Security requirements and solutions in commercial nuclear power
•Understanding of license basis considerations (UFSAR, Technical Specifications) and regulatory requirements (e.g., Reg. Guide 1.97) as they intersect with instrumentation
• Perform 10CFR50.59 screenings

• SRO license or certification; Professional Engineering license.
